Lexus TX vs RX: Which Lexus SUV Fits Your Family?

Compare the three-row Lexus TX and the two-row Lexus RX with practical guidance from Frank Qian, a Lexus Product Advisor in Vancouver, BC.

Once a family starts looking at larger Lexus SUVs, the conversation usually narrows to two vehicles: the Lexus RX and the Lexus TX.

They can look similar on paper—both are luxury SUVs with electrified options and all-wheel drive available—but they solve different problems. The real question is how many people you carry, and how often.

The Simple Answer

Choose the Lexus RX if you mostly carry up to five people and want a midsize luxury SUV that is easier to park and manoeuvre around Vancouver.

Choose the Lexus TX if you regularly need a usable third row, or you want significantly more cargo room behind the second row.

Seating: Five vs. Six or Seven

The RX is a two-row, five-passenger SUV. The TX is Lexus’ three-row SUV. Lexus Canada lists the 2026 TX with either second-row captain’s chairs (six seats) or a 60:40 bench (seven seats), depending on the grade. All 2026 TX 500h models in Canada use captain’s chairs for six-passenger seating.

Lexus Canada lists third-row legroom in the TX at 851 mm (33.5 in.), and access to the third row uses a slide-assist walk-in mechanism.

Size and Parking

Lexus Canada lists the 2026 TX at about 5,160–5,170 mm long and 1,990 mm wide. The RX 450h+ is listed at 4,890 mm long and 1,921 mm wide. That difference of roughly 27 cm in length is worth considering if you regularly use downtown parkades or tight residential parking.

Cargo Space

For the TX, Lexus Canada lists 572 L (20.2 cu. ft.) behind the third row, 1,625 L (57.4 cu. ft.) with the third row folded, and up to 2,747 L (97 cu. ft.) with both rear rows folded. Lexus describes the space behind the third row as enough for seven carry-on suitcases.

Powertrains

For 2026 in Canada, the TX is offered as the TX 350 (gasoline) and the TX 500h hybrid. Lexus Canada lists the TX 500h at 366 system horsepower with DIRECT4 all-wheel drive and a 2,268 kg (5,000 lb) towing rating, with combined fuel consumption of 8.6 L/100 km.

The RX line-up includes the RX 350, RX 350h, RX 500h and the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. Lexus Canada lists the RX 450h+ with an estimated 60 km of electric-only range, an 18.1 kWh battery and 304 horsepower.

Who Each Fits Best

The RX tends to suit couples, smaller families and drivers who want a refined midsize SUV without the footprint of a three-row vehicle. The TX tends to suit families with three or more children, carpooling, grandparents riding along, or anyone towing up to the TX’s rating.

The best test is practical: bring the car seats, strollers or gear you actually use and try them in both vehicles.
